SRE for Serverless Environments

SRE for Serverless Environments

Serverless, or functions as a service (FaaS), is the hot concept for delivering application components. This abstracts where a particular component is running — or how overall resource capacity needs are satisfied — and is largely invisible to the application end-user, the application itself, and its developer. Hyperscale providers have jumped on the bandwagon with offerings such as AWS’ Lambda or Google’s Cloud Functions, but DIY run-anywhere platforms such as Kubeless for Kubernetes (k8s) are also popular.

Regardless of where it lives, operating a serverless application at scale for production use requires architecture, monitoring, management, and maintenance to achieve business objectives. While a serverless approach may replace the need to manage discrete virtual machines or containers, at the end of the day nothing is free, and the disciplines of DevOps and SRE are essential for success, especially in large, complex environments.

Rule4 brings extensive architectural, operational, and SRE expertise to the serverless table. We’ll work with your team to define and deploy SRE principles for your serverless initiatives, including architectural strategy, ongoing visibility, and measurement.
